Partners in Care

The Orcas Island Lions Club recognizes that caring for a loved one (especially someone elderly, disabled, or in need of supervision) can be both rewarding and overwhelming. That’s why, in partnership with the Orcas Senior Center, they’ve launched the Partners in Care program to offer caregivers a vital breather while turning otherwise quiet Monday afternoons into warm, spirited gatherings for care recipients.

What It Offers

When & Where
Held every Monday from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Orcas Senior Center, this free reservation-only program offers a safe, supervised environment for participants.

A Complete Experience
Attendees enjoy lunch, creative activities (like crafts and puzzles), social time, walks, and even sing-alongs — with the Center’s ukulele group often joining in. The activities are vibrant and varied, promoting social engagement and joy.

Trained and Caring Leadership
The program is staffed by trained volunteers alongside a certified caregiver, ensuring all participants are supported with warmth, attentiveness, and professional oversight.

Why It Matters

A Real Respite for Caregivers
From attending appointments to simply catching a breath, caregivers receive a much-needed chance for self-care, knowing their loved one is engaged and safe.

Enriching Time for Participants
This isn’t just childcare, it’s a social lifeline. Participants enjoy stimulating activities, human connection, and shared joy — all essential ingredients for well-being, especially for those feeling socially isolated.

A Growing Pilot with Promise
Launched in late 2024 and running through the early months of 2025, Partners in Care hit its 10th week in April, already showing meaningful impact and a strong foundation for expansion.
