Orcas Island Lions Club

Holiday Baskets for Orcas Seniors

Each December, the Orcas Island Lions Club transforms the holiday season into one of warmth and connection. Volunteers come together with festive spirit and caring hearts to assemble, and personally deliver, more than 200 holiday gift baskets to homebound seniors across the island.

What Makes It Special

Community Spirit in Action
Beginning with thoughtful selection of goodies (often including fresh fruit, small gifts, and treats) the baskets are lovingly packed by club members in uplifting, holiday-themed wrapping. Delivering them takes the effort a step further: volunteers ring doorbells as messengers of goodwill, spreading joy right to seniors’ doorsteps.

A Meaningful Milestone
In years past, around 150 baskets were delivered, underscoring the program’s growing reach and growing need. This year, surpassing 200 baskets signals a community pulling together, showcasing just how deeply the Lions’ mission resonates.

Rooted in Service
The Holiday Baskets initiative is one among many ways the Lions “We Serve.” From supporting scholarships to vision care, this tradition underscores their dedication to ensuring that every islander feels seen, remembered, and cared for — especially during the holidays.

Why It Matters

For many seniors (particularly those who are homebound or facing isolation) this annual visit is more than a delivery: it’s a reminder they’re part of a caring community. The baskets, while modest, carry a powerful message of compassion, continuity, and holiday cheer.

The Holiday Baskets for Orcas Seniors program is more than just seasonal generosity, it’s a heartfelt tradition where hands and hearts unite to bring light, warmth, and connection to our elders during the most thoughtful time of year.
